Instead of reducing the present to one genre or ranking, look at the spaces where music lands and the ways people listen there.
- The current field is distributed across spaces with different scales and purposes.
- Performance formats shape how tracks and releases are made.
- Connectors moving between scenes matter more than one centre.
Many rooms, not one centre
A dance-floor club, a seated listening venue, and a media-art space produce different encounters with electronic sound. Online radio, streaming, and social platforms connect audiences beyond geography.
One artist may move among DJ sets, live electronics, installations, and collaborations. “What is trending?” is therefore less useful than “where and how is this being heard?”
People who connect scenes
Independent labels, party organisers, small festivals, and curators publish music while joining otherwise separate audiences. Translation, documentation, archiving, and design also shape a scene.
Sustainability depends on who opens spaces, how participation is organised, and what records remain after the performance.
