Postpone “what genre is this?” and more details become available. Start with three observations that have no wrong answer.
- Hear rhythm as both rule and interruption.
- Imagine sound as a material surface.
- Map distance, width, and depth around you.
What makes the body move?
Follow a repeating kick or snare when the beat is clear. When it is not, hear the gaps, entrances, and sudden empty moments as rhythm.
The goal is not to guess BPM. Notice whether sound arrives where your body expects it—or just before or after.
Surface and space
Call a sound smooth, rough, metallic, soft, dry, or foggy. Metaphor often clarifies perception faster than technical vocabulary.
Then close your eyes and map distance: a detail close to the ear, a far reverberation, a movement crossing left to right. One track can contain several depths.
